New Year’s Resolution: Tips for Shedding Weight

Healthy Living.

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions to make is also one of the hardest to keep: weight loss. While a fresh start in the new year may provide inspiration to shed extra weight, it is important to take certain steps to ensure that you stick to your resolution. Below are a few tips to setting yourself up for success in your new year’s weight loss journey.

1. Have a Healthy Mindset

Your mindset is incredibly important when it comes to weight loss. A negative focus on dieting, hunger, and sticking to strict rules is not healthy and is likely to make you want to give up early on. Instead, focus on using the new year as a fresh start to live a healthy lifestyle.
Find healthy recipes you are excited to try and aim to spend more time being active outside. Weight loss doesn’t have to be all difficult or boring.  Seeing it as a way to live an overall healthier life will increase the likelihood that you will follow through on your resolution.

2. Set Attainable Goals

If your resolution is too vague, you may have trouble sticking with it. Being specific about what your goals are and when you want to reach them is helpful. Make a plan at the beginning of the year with both short and long-term goals.

Don’t just set one, big goal you want to reach. Set smaller, more attainable goals for each month to avoid becoming overwhelmed. Reaching these goals will steadily bring you closer to your end goal.

3. Tell friends and family

Having a good support system is vital to reaching almost any goal. Tell the people you care about your new year’s resolution. You may even find a friend or family member who wants to work toward reaching a healthier weight with you. Find people who can keep you accountable and who you can share your progress with.

4. Celebrate success

When you set goals for yourself, you are likely to experience some set-backs, as well as successes. Don’t let yourself get discouraged if you don’t meet one of your goals as quickly or easily as you’d hoped too. Keep moving forward and celebrate the goals you do meet.
