Healthy Living.

During Summer months, many people want to lose a little weight for the days spent at the pool or beach in a bathing suit. However, it’s always good to remember that being healthy is the most important thing when it comes to dieting and weight loss.
Often, the best dieting plan is full of natural foods like fruits and veggies. There are so many fruits and vegetables that are in season during the summer months. Below are some delicious, healthy foods that can help you lose weight this summer.

Watermelon

Watermelon is often a summertime staple.  It is sweet and in season during the summer months. Watermelon is mostly water, making it extremely hydrating.  It is also high in antioxidants and electrolytes.
Try adding watermelon to a fruit salad, eating it by itself, or even throwing it on the grill for a few minutes.

Grilled veggies

Family barbecues and cook-outs occupy lots of summer nights. Next time you get out the grill for hot dogs and hamburgers, try adding some veggies. Grilled veggies can be a nutritious side-dish alternative to fries or chips. Try some of these delicious grilled summer veggies:
  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Potatoes
  • Zucchini
  • Carrots
  • Bell peppers
Vegetables are great for losing weight and they are also beneficial for heart health and the immune system.

Salads

Many people think of salads as being boring and bland. However, a salad is one of the best ways to create a flavorful, nutritious main course or side dish. There are endless possibilities when it comes to salad ingredients. Try some of these this summer:
  • Mixed greens such as spinach, arugula, romaine, and kale
  • Raw or cooked veggies
  • Nuts
  • Dried fruit
  • Low fat cheeses

Desserts

Eating healthy this summer doesn’t mean you have to give up dessert treats. There are plenty of healthy options to choose from.
  • Putting fruit like peaches, pineapple, or banana on the grill for a few minutes brings out a flavorful, syrupy, sweetness that can be paired with low fat ice cream.
  • Try using fruit juice and some of your favorite fruits to make healthy popsicles, ice cream, or frozen yogurt.
  • Drizzle chocolate over your favorite frozen fruits.
All of these delicious foods, when paired with exercise, will help you enjoy a healthy summer. And because different people have different needs when it comes to weight loss, always talk to your doctor before beginning a new diet or exercise plan.
